Congregational Partners

ACTS has initiated a major effort to connect with local churches and faith congregations to help prevent homelessness. The key component of this effort involves developing dedicated relationships or partnerships with faith congregation throughout central Virginia.

The focus of this mission is to engender a feeling that we are united in helping people in need. Together we can bring more wholeness to families in crisis and keep more families stably housed.

Under this partnership, ACTS serves two constituencies:

Faith congregations: Every day in our community people knock on church, synagogue and temple doors and canvass the phone book in search of financial help. These congregations often receive many calls for help. They often do not have the resources, expertise or time to affectively address these needs. ACTS becomes a vital resource for these congregations where they can refer families and know that they will be cared for in a compassionate way.

Clients in need: Once a referral is made, ACTS staff will contact the client, set up an appointment and complete an intake assessment. ACTS will verify all documents and records and ensure the legitimacy of the need. The client’s situation will be fully discussed and assistance provided should the client meet qualifications.

The Partnership Roles

The faith congregation role:
  • Creates a relationship with ACTS through an annual contribution. This allows the congregation to become an active partner.
  • The congregation designates a person(s) to be the liaison to ACTS.
  • The congregation may refer people in need of financial help to ACTS.
ACTS role
  • Works with congregations to accept referrals for help. These may be individuals from their own congregation or persons who have randomly contacted them for assistance.
  • ACTS provides instruction to the designated liaison.
  • ACTS provides an operational manual which includes a directory of resources.
  • ACTS will send the congregation regular reports about the program outcomes.
  • ACTS makes available opportunities for church members to volunteer.
If your congregation is a current partner with ACTS, we thank you very much for your support.

If you are unsure, please feel free to contact Peggy Tucker, Case Manager  at (804) 249-5431 to ask about your congregation’s status. ACTS believes that local congregations play a vital role in helping families in crisis. We welcome your inquiries and will be honored to discuss ways your congregation can become a part of this important mission.
